Savileās Sex Den
By Mark McConville
LOOK inside this creepy abandoned psychiatric hospital where Jimmy Savile once carried out a string of sexual assaults during a summer gala.
Eerie pictures and video show the crumbling remains of the hospital building while the sprawling grounds still seem in good condition.
Other shots show what was once a grand hall deteriorating at the hands of time and a barred gate which would have separated wards.
The images and footage were taken at High Royds Hospital in Menston, West Yorkshire by bartender Kieran Young (20) from Colne who posts as Exploring Lancashire.
āI had been here a few times previous but never found a way in,ā he said.
āI’ve always love the look of Victorian buildings so this really took my eye so I kept going back to get in. After five or six attempts I finally got in with a friend.
āMy pictures encapsulate the past while also showing the morbid reality of the present.ā
According to an investigation report into a gala to mark the centenary of High Royds Hospital, published in June 2014, predator Saville groped women at the hospital during the event in 1988 and demanded a room in case he āpulled one of these young nursesā.
Staff said he cupped womenās breasts and put his hands up someoneās skirt but they did not formally complain at the time due to seeing it as an āoccupational hazardā.
High Royds Hospital first opened on 8th October 1888 as the West Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum and closed in 2003.
The facility closed after becoming outdated and unsuited to modern psychiatric practice.
High Royds was only one of twenty-eight hospitals where Savile sexually assaulted victims aged five to seventy-five over the decades he had access to victims.
