EXCITING split shots both over and underwater show critters joy-diving off the shores of Mexico and Thailand.
In Mexico’s Midriff Islands, a Brown Booby was captured taking a dive into the water to catch her day’s meal.
When the photographer placed their camera in the waters of Phuket, Thailand, a curious elephant was captured trying to explore the equipment with its trunk.
These shots were part of a special split-shot project captured by an award-winning photographer from Kuwait, Suliman Alatiqi.
“These shots give viewers a glimpse of the subject in its water environment while adding additional context about the scene above the water,” he said.
“These photos, in addition to being over-under, are also close-focus wide-angle photos, which means I am very close to the subject.
“Because the fisheye lens has an ultra-wide field of view, I have to be very close to the animal, or it will appear very small in the frame.
“Since the camera lens has to be between the surface of the water, I was either snorkelling or standing in the water without scuba gear.
“All of these photos were taken with my Nikon D850 and an 8-15mm fisheye lens.
“Being an ultra-wide lens makes it possible to capture a wide field of view both under and above the water.”
