A RARE VIDEO reveals how Alice in Wonderland was released as a silent movie over one hundred years ago where she encounters the rabbit caterpillar and the Queen of Hearts.
The charming silent depiction of one of Disneyās most popular classics, shows Alice approaching Wonderland, meeting the ālateā rabbit and going down the ārabbit holeā.
The following scenes unfold as Alice meets with all of the famous characters of the pipe-smoking caterpillar, the peculiar croquet game with the pack of cards, rabbit, the King and Queen of Hearts and her being a witness in court.
The movie ends with Alice back in the garden appearing to be slowly waking up from what was a dream after all.
The well-known scenes make up a silent film released in 1915 by writer and director, WW Young.
The film starred Viola Savoy as Alice. It is notable for depicting much of the āFather Williamā poem that appears in the original Alice in Wonderland book by Lewis Carroll.
Alice in Wonderland, the book, was written by English author, mathematician, logician, Anglican deacon and photographer, Lewis Carroll, who died on January 14, 1898.
The book was followed by a sequel called āThrough the Looking-Glassā which includes the Jabberwocky poem.
The film was released on January 19, 1915, and lasted 52 minutes.
