With the arrival of dark winter nights, cottages.com is proud to present a cosy and historical staycation property – a former World War II isolation hospital in Wales.
The fascinating Grade II listed mansion house, Plas Tanybwlch, in Ceredigon boasts an illustrious and varied past, providing holidaymakers with opportunity to follow in the footsteps of war-time generals who fought in the Napoleonic wars, as well as rock stars and even royalty..
Since then a number of famous former residents have been proud to call the property home. These include The Scorpions guitarist Uli Jon Roth, a German rock star who created a recording studio inside the property that was frequented by a variety of well-known musicians and was packed full of Jimi Hendrix memorabilia.
From music to the monarchy, royalty of another kind was also welcomed to the property, while under the ownership of a local politician known for hosting lavish garden parties. Prince George landed his plane in the grounds of the estate to attend one such celebration, before attending the Royal Welsh Show in 1933.
“It’s very rare to find a property such as Plas Tanybwlch, which boasts such a fascinating 180-year history,” said Simon Altham, Managing Director – Revenue atcottages.com.
“Having housed a variety of interesting and famous characters over the building’s life, this is a property that will provide a unique experience for military and music historians, as well as anyone looking for a truly unique holiday experience.
“Twinned with its stunning location and views, it lends itself perfectly for a relaxing coastal break, and showcases what guests can expect from our Heritage Collection.”
Sea View apartment has been lovingly restored to retain many of the original 19th Century features including architraves, plasterwork, internal shutters and sash windows. Interiors have been stylishly designed to make the most of sensational views across the sea and of three castles.
Plas Tanybwlch is the perfect base to discover some of the best coastline Wales has to offer, with access to over 60 miles of coastal paths. Nestled in seven acres of grounds, just a 30-minute walk along the beach to Aberystwyth, journey to Constitution Hill on the longest cliff railway in Britain and admire the views at the summit through the world’s biggest Camera Obscura.
“The location of Sea View is what first attracted us to the property, it took our breath away,” explained Richard Collyer, owner of Sea View, Plas Tanybwlch.
“No matter what the time of year, the views across the coastline seem to have the ability to just wash away any stresses. With the period features and modern furnishings, we wanted to create a relaxing hub where guests would feel at home, whilst experiencing this beautiful part of the Welsh shore.”
