IF YOU HAVE EVER WONDERED what it’s like to spend a night in the cells you can now pay for the pleasure thanks to this one of a kind prison-themed bed chamber in Margate.

Penny Rope Bed Chamber has been built into the former cold store of a Grade II listed property in the town.

For as little as £75 per night, two guests can live out a completely unique jail cell experience without the need to break the law.

Images show the exterior of the quirky chamber which can be kept under lock and key by a traditional, heavy-duty prison door that is complete with classic black bars.

Photos from the inside give potential guests a taste of what to expect from an authentic jail experience. Basic home-made bunk beds are accompanied by adjacent shelving where a small night light and tea and coffee facilities, complete with tin mugs, sit.

Despite the seemingly harsh conditions of the bed chamber, there is in fact no lack of comfort at Penny Rope.

Owner Polly High, 55, has kitted out the space with white cotton linen bedsheets, thick duvets, blankets, a heater and even hot water bottles for extra warmth on chilly evenings.

“I purchased the house in 2010 and commenced on the arduous task of restoring the main house to its former humble glory,” she said.

“It was my creative partner, Clare, who suggested the idea of creating a prison cell out of the cold store and so the whole concept evolved. With our joint construction and creative skills, we artfully put it all together.

“Thus far, Penny Rope has not attracted the midweek £200 per hour, no question asked crowd! Our new project, ‘The Habit’ on the other hand may be more appealing to the flagellant.

“People should stay here if they are looking for an unusual place to rest, there quite simply isn’t anything to compare with Penny Rope. We have managed to create the perfect combination of unique and luxurious.”

Whilst Penny Rope is a prison experience, would-be guests need not worry about losing their personal autonomy as Polly is much more lenient than your average guard.

The indoor lighting allows you to decide when it’s time for lights out whilst plug sockets and free wi-fi mean you won’t be completely cut off from the outside world.

Private shower and toilet facilities can be accessed in an outbuilding in the garden, adding to the authentic cell block experience. In addition, guests are free to use the private garden and BBQ facilities.

If you fancied chancing your very own ‘prison break’ then there is plenty to do when going ‘on the run’ in the local area.

Penny Rope is a short three-minute stroll from the beach and is ideally placed for all Margate’s many other attractions.

With such an amazing location and the warm hospitality on offer, Penny Rope may be the only cell in the country that inmates don’t want to leave.
