MEET the stunning living doll who spends up to an hour a day transforming herself into her favourite anime characters so she looks as cartoon-like as possible.
Images and video footage show Serenity Elara from Kiev, Ukraine, dressed up as Usagi Tsukino from the Japanese series Sailor Moon, dressed in quirky doll-like costumes and showcasing a range of brightly coloured hairstyles.
Other pictures show Serenity dressed down in her casual everyday look that she describes as ‘vampire doll’ which is inspired by her collection of Mattel’s Monster High and Barbie dolls. Serenity wears contact lenses every day, putting them in as soon as she wakes up and spends anywhere between half an hour to an hour on her makeup.
Serenity explained how she first got into cosplay.
“From childhood I always liked the anime Sailor Moon, my first cosplay outfit was made by my mother when I was fifteen-years-old. Usagi is the first character who inspired me to get into cosplay,” she said.
“Without this passion, my life would probably be empty and monotonous, like everyone else’s.
“I do not want to turn into a girl with a plastic appearance, they think that it’s beautiful but really not. I think that the puppet appearance can be achieved with the beauty of the beauty and simply using makeup and lenses.
“I try to emphasise my natural beauty by using makeup, I like to make very bright make-up and make big eyes using this.”
Serenity makes her cosplay outfits, buying the materials and sewing them together herself – she says her hobby of collecting dolls and cosplay motivates her to work hard. When out in public, she says she receives mixed reactions especially when dressed in her signature vampire look.
“Many people look at me and condemn me,” she said.
“Children and young girls often pay attention to me and basically they say that I look like a gothic doll.
“I never had problems with my parents, they always support me.
“My plans for the future are to progress and make beautiful cosplay and become a designer.”
