INCREDIBLE IMAGES of Japanese macaques enjoying the autumn season have been captured amongst a riot of colour.
Images show the macaques napping in red foliaged cherry trees, playing in the branches and even enjoying some of the leaves as a snack.
The Japanese macaque, also known as the snow monkey, is a terrestrial Old World monkey species that is native to Japan.
As adults the males weigh around 24lbs and the females 18.5lbs. In recent studies, the Japanese macaque has been found to develop different accents, similar to human cultures.
These striking images were captured by photographer Atsuyuki Ohshima (40) using a Sony ILCE-1 in Kyoto, Japan.
āIt was a pleasure to see a troop of monkeys spend the autumn in the woods of Kyoto, Japan,ā said Atsuyuki.
āSome monkeys lounge under trees, some nap, relax and others play.
āIt’s one of the most beautiful seasons in Japan, especially in Kyoto.
āAlthough many tourists visit the town to see theĀ autumnĀ leaves, for the wildlife, it’s just another day in their lives that is no different.”Ā Ā
