THIS 17 YEAR-OLD receives hate daily because she has bought a Tesla Model 3 which retails for £40K with her OWN MONEY.
Full time content creator and student Sophia Castiblanco (17) from Illinois, USA has received hate on a daily basis because she earns nearly $100K per year as an influencer, with her video slamming the haters going viral on TikTok with 5.9M views.
Sophia posted a video addressing the hate she has received in relation to her owning a new model 3 Tesla car at 17-years-old, which includes comments from haters such as; “she makes me want to vomit”, “I hope your battery fails and you have to take out a 25K loan for a new battery”, “please shut the f*ck up and stop using daddy’s money to buy stuff. It’s time to get a real job”, and “you’re going to tell me that you can buy yourself a tesla model 2 at 17? Don’t even try to tell me yes”.
Despite the hate she receives for her car choice, Sophia is proud of how much she has achieved through her own income, as she states that she was able to purchase the Tesla model 3 through a payment plan and plans to buy even more luxurious cars in the future, such as a Porche.
Although Sophia is extremely open and proud about her achievements, she does acknowledge that the hate comments has made feel more guarded over what she posts and has made her more conscious of her content.
“I receive all kinds of hate comments and messages, anything from telling me I’m a spoiled brat, I’m useless, to I’m ungrateful and that I’ll never succeed in life.,” Sophia said.
“I’ve noticed that haters will take any little thing from a light-hearted video and just find any way to turn it into something negative.
“It’s frequent, usually on videos where I talk about my income or my car or my success in some ways that will trigger people.
“I honestly think people leave this hate because people can be triggered with seeing other people’s successes and I think especially because I’m so young it’s easy to think it was all just handed to me and that I never had to work for it which can make people feel jealous, but that isn’t the case.
“It wasn’t until I started to receive a massive amount of hate every day that it started to get to me a little bit.
“It isn’t so much of feeling bad about myself type of thing but more so I’m more careful about what I post. So instead of posting whatever I want, I search my videos for something that may trigger my audience now.”
Sophia has aspired to be an influencer since a very young age and despite her peers telling her otherwise, she was able to achieve her dream from the age of 12 when she started a Youtube channel playing with and reviewing reborn dolls called ‘Sophia’s Reborns’ which currently has over 175K followers.
At 12, Sophia was able to find her first steady stream of income with the success of her Youtube channel, which she then added another line of income on to with a second Youtube channel where she focuses more on lifestyle videos, with over 30.7K followers.
However, where Sophia makes most of her revenue is through TikTok and brand deals associated with TikTok, where she has over 321.9K followers and racked up 9.2M likes.
Through this, Sophia estimates she earns around $100K per-year at 17-years-old.
“I had a few kid jobs before this but my first real income came from my Youtube channel when I was 12 and it was about reborn doll roleplay,” Sophia said.
“That was my first major source of income. I then started my second youtube channel which became my second income.
“I have another source of income which comes from brand deals on TikTok. I also invest which is another source of income.
“I think the thing that people don’t know is that Teslas come with a lot of different rebates so they’re a lot more affordable than people may think.
“We didn’t actually buy it outright, I’m actually doing a payment plan so I didn’t need to save a certain amount for it.
“I’ve been working since I was 12 and I have income every month but I didn’t save a certain amount for it.”
Despite the hate, Sophia is still proud of har far she has come at such a young age and has learnt to deal with her haters from the age of 12.
“It’s been hard but honestly I’ve been receiving hate since I was 12 so I’ve gotten used to it now and I just try to ignore it,” Sophia said.
“I think a big part of it can be pretty uninspiring. The reason I love being an influencer is how I can make that connection with my audience through the comments, so when that special connection gets taken away, it can be hard when the nice comments switch to negative things.
“I think before someone should comment something negative is that you’re not going to know someone from a 60 second video.
“They jump to conclusions that I’m a spoiled brat and I had everything handed to me but in reality I have worked for everything I have today and so have my parents.
“They shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.”
