THRILLING video footage has captured an adrenaline junkie jumping over a huge pier while kite surfing.
The exciting clip shows the kite surfer speeding along the surface of the water before flipping into the air and over the pier.
Other parts of video show the jump from a first-person angle as the man reaches a huge height to complete the stunt.
The footage was taken in Cape Town, South Africa by professional kiteboarder Joshua Emanuel (24), from Durban.
āThis is extreme kiteboarding and it’s about pushing the limits of the sport,ā he said.
āI am driven by adrenaline and this is where I get it. I love going as big as possible and as high as possible.
āIn life there are no limits. You set your limit and how much you want to push it.ā
Kitesurfing is a style of kiteboarding specific to wave riding, which uses standard surfboards or boards shaped specifically for the purpose.
Kitesurfers change kite size and/or line length depending on wind strength ā stronger winds call for a smaller kite to prevent overpower situations. Kitesurfers will determine the wind strength using either an anemometer or, more typically, visual clues as shown in the Beaufort scale.
Modern kites dedicated to kitesurfing provide a “depower” option to reduce the power in the kite. By using depower, the kite’s angle of attack to the wind is reduced, thereby catching less wind in the kite and reducing the power or pull.
Joshua currently rides for Core Kites with a GTS5 with the choice three board and wakestyle bar.
āFor me this is the perfect setup to go big and throw huge loops,ā he said.
āWhen I was 10 years old some of my friends were doing the spot and from a young age I have always loved the ocean and board sports.
āOver the years it went from a hobby into a passion and now Iām living the dream.ā
