Narcos Retreat: Inside Pablo Escobar’s Mexican Mansion Which is Now a Luxury Hotel

YOU can now live like one of the world’s most notorious criminals after one of Pablo Escobar’s mansions was turned into a luxury hotel from £388 per might.

Incredible images show the stunning 24-room boutique hotel, located in Tulum, Mexico, with palm trees surrounding an ornately-decorated wooden entrance.

Other pictures show the spacious rooms, a spectacular roof top view of the beach and jungle and a sparkling blue pool.

Filled with art from Lio Malca’s eclectic collection, Casa Malca is an eco-friendly boutique hotel on the beaches of Tulum.

The resort was once one of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar’s mansions, but after his death in 1993 it remained untouched like many of his other properties.

It stayed this way until 2003 but it wasn’t until 2012 that New York art dealer Lio Malca set about restoring the mansion to its former glory, converting it into a 24-room boutique hotel that’s filled with fancy art and furniture.

You won’t quite need Escobar’s huge fortune to stay at the hotel although rooms do start at around £388 a night.

Casa Malca is quite unique in that one side of the hotel stretches to the vast turquoise of the Caribbean with a private white sand beach while the other gives way to the lush green of the jungle.

The hotel is billed as eco-friendly and ‘honours Tulum’s precious resources and unparalleled offerings, from local fresh produce to artisan crafts’.

Pablo Escobar was a Colombian drug lord and narco-terrorist. His cartel supplied an estimated 80% of the cocaine smuggled into the United States at the height of his career, turning over US $21.9 billion a year in personal income.

He was often called “The King of Cocaine” and was the wealthiest criminal in history, with an estimated known net worth of US $30 billion by the early 1990s, making him one of the world’s richest men.

In 1993, Escobar was shot and killed in his hometown by Colombian National Police, one day after his 44th birthday.
