Time Capsule Home

By Zoe Cassell

FLASHBACK photos show this home where time has stood still since the 1960’s when it was mysteriously abandoned by the family who owned it.

The decadent images show a decaying house with retro-wallpaper and other décor, filled with family possessions, including family portraits and a child’s yellow wellington boot.

The home appears to have been abandoned in a hurry as a casserole dish and flask have been left on the dining table.

Urban explorer Jane Veltmann (31) from Germany captured the lost home in Belgium using a Canon EOS 20D.

“The house was abandoned deep in the woods in the middle of nowhere,” she said.

“Inside you see a lot of personal stuff. I think a family with kids lived there. There were two bedrooms and a lot of pictures on the walls.”

The crumbling home is located deep in the woods, with the next house more than six miles away.

In one photograph we can see the master bedroom with clashing graphic patterns and a scruffily made bed.

“I think most of the time it was very lonely to live there. I think it will always be a secret about what happened with the family,” Jane added.

She hopes her photography showcases the beauty in decay.

“For many years I have been photographing abandoned buildings with passion. Many buildings tell their stories without words.

“In my pictures I try to put life and soul back into a dead place. My pictures should touch inwardly and lead us into another world.”
